Effective strategies to help patients with COVID-19 infection

Therapeutic anticoagulation ( higher dose), not prophylactic anticoagulation( lower dose) of blood thinners was found to lower mortality by 50% in COVID-19 patients with low bleeding rates ( 2-3%)relative to no anticoagulation according to a recent New England Journal of Medicine published study. There was also a high incidence of thromboembolic disease found in 42% of autopsies.

Similarly, in the RECOVERY trial, Dexamethasone therapy showed that steroids inhibit systemic inflammation in 6 mg IV given daily for 10 days in patients who need supplemental oxygen, ( the Oxygen saturation drops less than 94%. Proning position also helps patient oxygenation by improving lung ventilatory capacity and obviate the need for mechanical ventilation in many cases ( https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/proning-saves-lives-adel-eldin-md-facc-facp-mba-gga/)

Take all precautions which include wearing a mask, social distancing, frequent hand washing, using sanitizers …etc. I know there is pandemic fatigue out there, but we have to be kind and courteous to each other as the coronavirus pandemic is intensifying this fall and winter season and yes, we can save tens of thousands of lives by following these simple measures, self quarantined and do contact tracing to stay ahead not behind of the coronavirus. Yes, we can do this together while staying united as we did it in New York, New Zee land, and South Korea. Stay safe and stay healthy this Holiday Season!
